The cost is based upon the age of the dog*.
Our Adoption Fees cover the cost of the canine's spay/neuter, vaccinations, flea and tick prevention, de-worming treatments, microchipping, and food. Our Adoption Fees are set slightly above the estimated amount to foster so that we can provide additional care and services, such as nail trimmings, emergency medical procedures, and provide toys and treats to our fosters and canines.
While these are our standard fees, the adoption fee can vary and will be noted as such in the dog's profiles and social media posts.
In short, the Adoption Fee not only covers the cost of saving one canine's life, but it allows us to continue our efforts to save as many canines as possible while assisting our veteran community!
*Adoption Fees can vary at the discretion of the Board. This discretion will be noted in all posts regarding the dog. Adoption Fees are subject to Idaho state tax.
You should expect to receive an imperfect companion animal who will be forever grateful for your love. No animal is perfect, but they can be perfect for us. Our fosters work with our animals to teach them basic commands such as "Sit", "Lay Down", "Wait", and "Stay", as well as house training. All of our dogs will be neutered/spayed, up-to-date on vaccinations, and microchipped prior to being deemed "Adoptable". Our goal is to match our dogs with the best possible family, and we hope that when you adopt from us, they will truly become a part of your family!
Our Veteran Adoption program provides military veterans with a companion animal for a $20 fee. The $20 fee collected at the time of adoption enrolls that veteran and their adopted canine into the "Elliot's Veteran Friends" group, which holds monthly meetings at local dog parks for all members to attend. The goal of these programs are to reduce veteran suicide and associated mental health issues within the veteran community, as well as to foster bonds and friendship between our veteran members and their canines. To qualify for the Veteran Adoption program, one must have proof of veteran status (VA Identification Card or a copy of your DD-214). For more information, please contact us!
We understand that sometimes timing just isn't right when you find the "dog of your dreams". For this reason, we have implemented an Adoption Holding Policy. If you wish to adopt one of our dogs but certain circumstances do not allow you to bring them home immediately, we can choose to hold the dog for you until you are ready. The typical time period for this is two weeks but can be extended by one of our Board Members and requires a $50 non-refundable deposit. For more information, please contact us!
While we are fully committed to canines being in a forever family, we understand that certain circumstances can cause a family to surrender their animal. If you need to surrender your canine, we ask that you fill out a Surrender Application, found under the "Forms" tab, and email it to us. We will review your application and if we have a foster available, we will accept your surrender in most circumstances. We do ask for a $150 donation for a surrender, but we will not turn away a dog due to a family's inability to pay.
Elliot & Friends Canine Rescue understands that not every individual or family has the money required for an adoption fee, but they can still be a great home for a dog in need. For that reason, we are proud to offer payment plans towards our adoption fees. We require 10% down at the time of adoption, and the adoption fees must be paid in full within six months. There is no interest added into these payments, but as always, donations are greatly appreciated. Contact us for more information!
